"Silver, Blue, and Gold" seems like a terribly sad song to be the one to call your own, Cuz.  I've actually had the opportunity to get some foresight on this question of yours. A few years ago, my best friend from way back challenged our circle of friends to each make what he called a ME-CD...one mix-disc to tell the story of your life, and then we exchanged them with each other. I ended up with somewhere around 14 tracks, but the final three kind of summed things up in the way I think you mean. They aren't necessarily my favorite songs in the world, but they take me full circle in some respects. The three are: "In My Life" by the Beatles (v=-m6Kx0a6QEU) No disrespect to the Divine Miss M, but come on, this is John Fucking Lennon. No other version quite measures up, in my humble opinion (though Johnny Cash's really moves me, too). This is the song I want played/sung at my funeral. Kids better remember that. I'm glad we have this one in common.  "The Riddle" by Five For Fighting (v=4BtqElO1OX4) There's something about this song that burrowed into my subconscious the very first time I heard it. The closest thing to a "meaning of life" that I can comprehend is simply the act of experiencing the journey in the attempt to find answers to the greatest riddle of life: the reason we're here. I agree the song' s conclusion...the reason involves being there for each other. And lastly... "San Diego Serenade" by Tom Waits (v=7hbC-_79p7I ) A song about the regrets of taking things for granted. It has one of my favorite lyrics of all time: I never heard the melody until I needed the song.  As much as I know cling to my tried and true classic songs, I think we all have the need to keep our ears and hearts fresh with current stuff. Even if it isnt planned, just turning on the radio or TV gets us immersed in current music. That is a very good thing. Many will be the classics of tomorrow because so much music ties us to a time, person or place. I know you've had a wild ride the last few years and you know I love your decor in your pics from events. Our song is definitely "put a candle in the window" by CCR. Every time I hear it I think of her, what we've been through and how much she means to me. As for a song that defines me? Too difficult. And no I'm not so deep I can't be defined my mood shifts too often. It would be a mix of 5-6 songs. Some days I am full of wonder and other days I want to see it all painted black. I truly dont see silver blue & god as a sad song, though. Very passionate and powerful yes, because it is a recurring mix, just like life, of sad yet hopeful openhearted love. It never makes me do anything but smile. Just like In my life does. Lol speaking of, just like Die Hard II, I knew the Bette version first so to me, its the most solid in my heart though not the one I most often play. Truth? First time I ever heard the song was on an episode of Family Ties and I fell in love with it on the spot and hounded every adult I knew by singing it at them until I could figure out who really sang it. And them out came the movie "for the boys' and there was Bette bellowin it on MTV. I am so not claiming the Michael Gross / Meridith Baxter Birney version as my fave though! You see when I first heard The big O (Roy Orbiston ) I was hooked , gives me goose bumps to hear his sound , so bold and strong and one of his songs was called Communication breakdown , its fckn Awesome ! Truckers say on their radio (thats a big Ten four buddy ) meaning I got you ! I understand ! then add for O as in for Orbiston , his song communication Breakdown ! Which means you lost my drift and thought I meant Oprah ! get it ! Communication breakdown !!!! Now I know its a Zep song as well but I like Roys song best ! I've been a drama queen for ages , watching soapies , I was thinkin about the bold and the beautiful , remember I think it was Sheila who chucked the shrink out the window , couldn't remember his name. still thats 20 years ago.I'm onto you chicks , hiding all the good stuff like soapies away during the time hubbies at work, not to mention ellen and Oprah , hey I'm in tune with womens matters , all except , that ovulating thing that makes you flip back the pages of alt for dick shots. O'kay I shall get back to my ironing then wearing the apron with boob prints. I'm so not in the mood to put sexy underwear on for you ! Its uncomfortable too, I much prefer tracky dacks. Lace stuff used to be stiff and scratchy which is why I favored satin and silk more solid things, but now, so much stuff is soft cotton lace and blends not stiff nylon lace so.....Yeah, suck it up and put on your silk boxed honey. Open fly no buttons of course. Its fun to blow breaths at teh fly when you sashay past. A cool soft and steady stream or a warm short puff. Variety is the spice of life. I've known/know a few drunks. Moderation is best I think. I can't lose the plot though cos I never found it ! The metal detector has icons on it like iron, pull tabs, rings but no plot, so no help there. Apart from music and a nice walk in the Aussie bush and some cooking there is fuck all else going on for me , feeding the pets is cool. Playing in the garden is okay. Having a chat with ya is cool ! Amazing how much stuff you know. What do the people who've got the plot do ?
