Friendships or Polite Bullshit?

After 5 days experience on this site I've done a little chatting, posted in a couple of blogs and joined one group. I'm getting my money's worth out of this joint one way or another, dammit! So far, the nicest part has been the genuinely friendly people I've encountered, nice to chat with, well educated, funny, warm, the kind I think I'd hang with over coffee if given the chance. Or am I kidding myself? I wonder how many genuine 'friends' grow out of this site. Yes, it's nice to meet a new face and personality, but if the initial novelty doesn't promise intimacy, or attraction, or the potential for attraction, then is that person destined to be a pleasant bus stop along the route, nothing more? Let's face it - if we were looking for plain ol' friends there are far better sites dedicated to that type of connection. More to the point, how quickly would you dump your circle of buddies in here if the partner of your dreams came online? |
