Fifty Shades of BS When My friend shared this with Me. I was in disbelief. Not on the findings as much as the fact that someone would even waste time, energy, and money to research this (courtesy, NY Daily News) Women who read "Fifty Shades of Grey" were more likely to have fasted, used diet aids and had a partner who verbally abused them or demonstrated stalker behavior toward them, according to a study by Michigan State University. Women who read all three books were more likely to binge drink and have five or more sexual partners than women who hadn't read any of the triology. Amy Bonomi, chairwoman of human development at Michigan State, led the study of 655 women ages 18 to 24. Despite the book's popularity with older women, Bonomi told the News that she studied younger women because their brains are at a critical developmental stage and they are exploring their sexuality more. "Studies like this have been done before," she said, noting analyses linking violent television to violent behavior and magazines to body image. "(But) nobody's really done it for fiction." Because the books regularly reference BDSM, Bonomi and her colleagues wanted to see if there was a relationship between readers and "the underlying abuse patterns" in E.L. James' erotica. The researchers can't know for sure which came first — health problems or an interest in Christian and Anastasia's steamy romps — but they said either could have. In other words, reading the books could lead to risky behavior, or women partaking in such behavior may turn to the books. Bonomi said she was not calling for women to stop reading the triology, or for the books to be banned — just for women be aware. "It's important for women to understand that (these) health behaviors are known risk factors for being in a violent relationship and we did show associations with reading 'Fifty Shades' and those health behaviors." |

"Women who read all three books were more likely to binge drink and have five or more sexual partners than women who hadn't read any of the triology." Five or more sexual partners? This is statistically significant? Hasn't almost everyone these days had at least five sexual partners? ~LastGuy "It's great to be here. It was a "study of 655 women ages 18 to 24", not a study of "almost everyone". ~LastGuy "It's great to be here. It's great to be anywhere." -- Keith Richards "There are many spokes on the wheel of life. First, we're here to explore new possibilities." -- Ray Charles
