"Um....I don't really HAVE a 'vanilla' life at present."

This was the realization I had when someone was chatting with me after the first class I taught this weekend at Kinkfest in Portland this weekend. The opening night ceremony was topped by the most stunning opening performance I have ever seen at a leather event. Ever. There was a Taiko, there was a drummer, and there was a domme who used the player as an instrument. Fucking breathtaking. I was insanely nervous and intimidated when I had to get up on-stage with the other presenters to be introduced to the assembled crowd, since I am the only one there who doesn't own a kink-related business, or have a bunch of books under their belt, or isn't a Leather award / title winner or an internationally known entity on the kink / leather / fetish circuit. Well, yet, anyway! I spent the first night tired as fuck. I got seriously hit on by Senor Clueless of the Idiocracy, WHO ACTUALLY said "Aw, now that's too bad!" when I told him I was not dominant. I had to tell him this because he was seriously hawking a conversation I was having with a friend, and would not go away. Shit. Even better was the "Why" he was disappointed. It was because he had "been looking forever for a black domme" and was "having a hard time finding one in Portland." OMG. Um. Dude. Never mind. During dinner (Thanks, !) at the hotel diner, I started having in insane allergy attack, and thank the god some friends at another table took pity on me and gave me some Zyrtec. Of course, that combined with being tired as fuck and being sick generated a serious passing out level of sleep. I was in bed by 11 and asleep probably half an hour or so later and shot awake in raw panic at 12:40 PM. My class started at 1:00 I was showered into my clothes and in the lecture hall by 12:56. There were a good number of people for the class, and as the 90 minutes went by, more people started showing up. Folks often like to class surf, SO you can't take it too personally when they skeedaddle. I was glad to only lose four or six people, which is saying something since there was a LOUD fisting demo right next door. *sigh* But yes, it went well and by the time I was done, I felt far less unnerved by the fact that I never DID find my class notes for my two classes. {I found my notes for every OTHER class, but not the two I was to teach this weekend. GO figure. It was kind of crazy to have all of these people walking up and telling me how much they enjoyed the class, and how much they were looking forward to the class tomorrow. Even crazier were the people who started telling me that they'd heard that my class was fantastic and that they were making my class tomorrow their priority. Which I figured was people being nice, since I was up against some serious insanely awesome bondage classes. My buddy took me to the c00lest place evAr, a brewpub called McMenamins that is located in an old school. In addition to the pub / restaurant (dudes. If you are ever there, have the crab dip. The shit is fuckin GOOD) you should also ask her about the ultimate in submission: The Service Zerbert .I was feeling PMSy and bloated and cranky and not very goddamned cute on Saturday night, but I had a play-date and dammit, I was not going to let my being cranky squash that. I am glad I didnt because then I would have missed out on a really lovely flogging and that is nothing at which one should shake a stick. (And thanks again , Howard1000 ! Yay!! So, Sunday late morning....I had a really nice pre-class impromptu cuppa with two cool women and then hopped into the lecture hall. I was chatting with some people up front, and so I did not realize until it was time to start that the room was full. By the time things got rolling the room was SRO packed, and I was in my head thinking Well holy shit. Because I hadnt had a class this packed since my presentation at Black Rose, which is an event something like 3 times the size of this event and this is a pretty damned big event. It was awesome. There are some times when you just know you have the audience on your side the energy is great, people are participating, the energy is just there, the words come to you, and it just happens. It was fucking fantastic. I could see people nodding and investing in the topic, laughing their asses off, focused and intent when the more serious aspects of things were being trotted out, no flagging in the interest and the energy for a solid 90 minutes. I am very proud of myself! I was wrung out by the end but seriously it took me another HOUR just to get from the front of the room to the lobby because so many people had stuff that they wanted to share, or just to say really super nice things. I cant say enough about the people at this event. The organizers did a smashing job. I had a wonderful time. The attendees were delightful and even the clueless bumblers had their moments. I was glad to be back at home. And I was very glad that Mr. GooberHead was able to come over later since I had missed him while I was away, in spite of hisself And now, back at work to contact all of the vendors I met up with at the event an try to get them in the loop here, and to also try to recall the name of the photographer I need to speak with this week .because, like I told the nice couple who asked what I did in vanilla life for the present, I dont really have one.
