I think it depends what type of work

It would be best to contact the Australian Embassy where you are

There are a heap of ways to get in to work for a bit Wickie. The easiest way is to get a company to sponsor you to come to work for them for a bit. Some migration agents here (the better ones) can try to find sponsors for you but it is a bit hit and miss.

I have friends who have lived in Australia. One was a guy who moved from UK to live down there to be with the girl he met online. (They eventually got married). He had a terrible time getting a job. The difficulty was proving he had special skills that an Aussie citizen couldn't supply, they told him jobs were for the citizens first. I had another friend from US who was hired from here to move there (they "headhunted" him) but he did have very specialized computer programming skills. This was around 5-6 years ago. Not sure that helps but its a little bit of info I have from people I know that have moved there.
