Once Upon a Time: The Hunter Part II

Once Upon a Time: The Hunter Part II

The small and gentle fae lived from day to day in her forest home. she was guarded by the woodland creatures. often while she slept several of the wolf pack would stay and range around her dwelling. During the day the birds would keep watch in the sky. The small creatures would prowl through the tree. All keeping an eye for the Hunter. The man who had frightened the fae so badly that she had abandoned her home in the old oak tree. Here she has barely set up a small space for comfort. It was not home to her yet. The fae still woke every night feeling as if she were being stalked, that the Hunter was ever near. she knows that once a predator has the scent of prey, it rarely gives up.
Each day before she would leave her refuge, she would listen to the birds, to the sounds of the forest around her. Inch by inch she would step out of her cover, eyes searching to make sure that she would be safe. Gradually she felt a little more secure in her surroundings. Yet the fae knew not to let her defenses down.
Then one day, she was returning to her sanctuary. And all of a sudden, everything went quiet. Then she heard the harsh call of the hawk. The cry setting her nerves on edge because she knew that the call was one telling of flight and the need to hide. Heart racing the fae inched back into the cover of the trees around her. Ears listening for any sound. Then she heard it. The step of a human.
Fear leaped inside of her. Heart racing her mind whirling with thoughts of what she should do. Forcing herself to calm. To think clearly. The fae gathers her small magics about herself. Pulling the natural look of the forest around her, making herself become more invisible to anything that might see, hear or scent her. Gathering patience she waits till the forest noises return to normal. When she hears the barking of the wolves she answers to them. Soon the wolves surround her and she climbs onto the back of the large black wolf. They head back to her home, slowly. Checking for anything that should not be there. Soon they found traps set in several places. Some near her home, others further away.
This time instead of springing all of the traps, they disabled a few close to her home, then destroyed those that were further away. Making it look as if a larger animal had gotten caught and trampled those. They did this in the hopes that the Hunter would be led to believe that those traps were closer to something that he wanted to capture.
The next day, the sprung traps were removed. she could she the Hunter’s footsteps all around. He was not taking care to cover his movements anymore. There was something new this time though. Set up where the sun would shine on it, a form of chain with pretty colored sparkling stones on it.
Now the fae are always fond of things that sparkle. she flew over and around the pretty thing. But knew deep down that this thing was evil and that she should not touch it. Flying away from it, looking at all angles to see just how far reaching this trap was, noting it down so that she would stay away. That night, the wolves slept circled around her. They could scent the Hunter close by.
The next day, the trap was still there, but now had even more pretty sparklies. This made her fingers itch just to touch them. Again she took to the air, looking it over. Seeing even more of an intricate set up to the trap. If a creature were to even get close there were snares set to grab them. Again she flew away knowing not to touch.
Several days went by and there was no change to the trap, no new prints left by the Hunter. Then one day the fae saw there was something new. her eyes grew round, her soft pink mouth forming a sensual oh. There in the middle. A lovely, bright Chrystal rose. Taking to wing once again, she looked for any new sign of trap. Not seeing anything to the sides or over the rose,,,she flew closer. Reaching out to pluck the rose, just the rose.
And out from under the sparklies a net shoots up and over her. her wings trapped, her body held down by the weight. Unable to move. The fae’s crys heard by the wolves, they come pulling and biting at the net. Soon the birds land and clasp the net, pulling it upwards. Finally she is able to crawl out from under the hateful net. Knowing she had been very very foolish. She climbs up onto the back of the large black wolf and once again is forced to abandon her home.
Later in the day the Hunter stands over the trap. A harsh smile on his face. He KNOWS that he almost had the fae. Now he is more determined to catch that soft and fair prize.
