That must be a Sicilian dish. My father came from from northern Italy in Liguria, where they cook with lot of meat, and my mother's family is from the Naples area, where they make a lot of cheese dishes, but I've never seen or even heard of anything like that. That definitely looks like an artery clogger. We always make a traditional ricotta pie for Easter, but ours is the sweet kind with sugar, orange and lemon. Hmmm, think I'll go cut a slice of that now. "Being honest may not get you a lot of friends, but it'll always get you the right ones" ~ John Lennon

we always called it "Easter Pie' ~ truly a labor of food love prepared by my mom. Life went from choco bunnies to this...One dish I wished I had taken the time to learn how to make proper..Ingredients are expensive to fuck it up...thanks for the memories ― William Goldman, The Princess Bride

Correct on the scale..cake size vs pie size....I think she might have started out making it pie size, then eventually grew it to cake portion... good stuff no matter whatchacallit ― William Goldman, The Princess Bride
