the economy..your opinion??

Now I don't want this post to become overtly political. I'm just seeking honest answers from my readers.

I'm not putting blame or praise on president x/y/or z.....I am just curious as to your honest opinion on the economy....Obama claims he thought he didn't do such a great job explaining it to the people of american. He assumes americans just don't understand and have a wrong assumption about the state of america's finances.

Basically consumer spending was down this quarter...

So I wondered what you really thought....have you prospered? are you doing okay? did the economy get better? or are the people in washington dc totally out of touch with america?

My humble opinion: I use the "fireworks" test..like 8 yrs ago I would happily run out around jun 30 and purchase like 100-200 dollars worth of fireworks...and really not think anything of it.

As the years progressed I stopped buying any...just couldn't justify spending that amount of something so stupid...it just wasn't in my budget

So as soon as the fireworks vendors come to town and set up their tents, I start to look at my yearly finances and start to get my hopes up. July 3rd rolls around and I still haven't bought any....and the 4th quickly slips away for yet another year.

This process has gone on for like 7 straight years now...the economy here certainly hasn't improved

this is the economy of kansas city.. it ( like alot of cities) wants to become the next seattle...kc's whole focus is luring in hipsters and high tech jobs. So we roll over backwards and go ass up to transform ourselves to be more appealing to this demographic.

We install bike lanes/we have rent a bikes down town/we dumped in tons of money downtown to create a money losing entertainment district/we went green and actually put in a 4 car trolley system that goes in a 5 mile loop period/ we have 2 thousand dollar a month lofts going up downtown/ we have craft beer companies coming out of our wing wang...

KC wants to create an atmosphere that caters to the 20 something-35 yr old single tech person with a great job and no kids...

The problem with this is what happens when these people grow up/get older and the tech bubble bust or denver or nashville becomes the new seattle.....we will be stuck with high dollar crap and no disposable income people to fill all these lofts.

It's like the city doesn't want middle class people anymore..it's like they aren't interested in getting good manufacturing jobs to come to the city....their whole focus and wallet is tuned into creating this yuppie utopia for the very well educated/wealthy/well off high tech person..

It sorta reminds me of these cities that host the olympics..so they go nuts and build all these venues and then 10 yrs later all that crap is abandoned..

My problem is I already went through this crap when I lived in pittsburgh pa...there everything and it's mother is medical.. there are like 3 universities and 6 hospitals in a 10 mile radius...

so if you aren't in the education field or medicine in some aspect then your just another guy...you have the old/the poor/ the people in medicine and then regular joes like me that slaved at retail stores and the service industry..
Why? because the city wasn't interested in luring in manufacturing.. the steel plants were dead and pittsburgh was reinventing itself as this medical utopia.
I had to leave pittsburgh because of the high taxes on me to pay for all the service the old people got ( low inheritance taxes plus tons of great hospitals means tons of old people flocking to pittsburgh..we became the florida of the north).

So I figure kc will always have it's poor... it will always have it's johnson country wealthy..and will alway have it's city sponsored class like the IT...
But it's the middle class that will always get squeezed and eliminated to pay for all of this. Eventually when the bottom falls out of the high tech industry ..people like me will be forced to move. because of the taxes
