Smoke and Mirrors

Life is a conundrum that not many ever have the chance to fully explore, either through their own fear or the fear of others. Too many restraints, too many conscription's and too many limits.

Some are restrained through their own denial of who they are, the denial of what they like and spend their time denying themselves the joy of being free to be who they are.

Some are conscripted by socio-cultural conditioning, some simply cannot marry who they are with who they have been raised to be. So much pain and misery with the two sides of their life battling for acceptance.

Some are limited by themselves and themselves alone. Some spend so much time soliciting their own pleasure from themselves, bargaining that one act doesn't necessarily lead to another or accepting that pleasure comes from being taken in a certain way doesn't mean something else.

These people are in the grips of fear. The fear that their nearest and dearest will ostracise them if they were to ever find out who they are. A fear that their life will be ruined if even the barest whimper of what they like should ever make its way into the world. A fear that they will never be able to be true to themselves.

Fear is not a thing to be mocked. These fears are not something to exploit. These fears are not something to test. These fears are not something to make real. There is no point in living in fear but there is no point in ruining a life over not understanding someone else's.

The one thing to remember above all else is, these people are human.

Finally accepting my innermost desires without judgement has led me to a newfound personal identity. This new idea that I no longer have to conform to anyone else's ideals of what's right and wrong has been extremely liberating to say the least.

Also, a better projection of one's true self can act as a call to other like-minded people, and also a way to understand better those already around you. Do they act with ignorance and fear or do they seek to understand?
