It is nice to know you met real people willing to help someone in need. Although the majority of the people in the world are most likely to help you, be kind to you, this lending a hand of friendship is often overshadowed by a few idiots who spoil it for the rest of the world Stereotyping is never a good thing and nor does anything good ever become of it ! Glad you said it out loud!.......... I am proud to be a helpful American !!!

Food for thought for me this morning. I may blog off your topic later this week because I see several sides of this 20-sided die.

One of the stereotypes about Americans we have here in Europe is as if Americans are service orientated. It almost feels like that judging from your experience that is true. People were willing to go the extra mile to help someone in need.

It's actually quite easy to not like "Americans". "Americans" as a nation do some really crazy shit. But I've always said this and it's still almost true (a couple of exceptions) I have never met an American I didn't like. You are a hugely generous spirited bunch... Mostly!

Agree people are people, and though I am definitely not known for my love of arrogant , self absorbed Europeans, I try to remember that what you see in the media is mostly stereotype and hype , designed to sell news (no longer just reported), which sells adverts. The more scared of the evil Muslims you are, the quicker you click on those stories; more clicks mean more money. I wonder if Steve Jobs visualized this giant propaganda machine.
