I know that The Golden Compass is not a 007 movie but I love it.

Looking back at the films concerned, I feel that the great strength of Craig's performance was the consistency of his character through the series of films. Because of this I can't pinpoint one film being the standout, however in my opinion Craig can be considered one of the best Bonds if not the best.

Casino Royale is by far the best. It is the one most highly influenced by Bourne and has very few of the Roger Moore style stupidity. There is just as much conflict between the characters as their is physical action.

Not to cause a fight, but SkyFall is self-defeating. The entire plot device of the super-villain getting caught and then breaking out of the MI6 jail just in time to try to assassinate M at the Parliament committee meeting is stupid for a dozen reasons. In the last reel there are many great moments between Craig and Dame Judi Dench, but by then the whole cloak and dagger of the villian has damaged the property.

Quantum of Solace is similarly stupid because SPECTRE (which I have not seen) is supposedly some super secret crime syndicate - that nobody knows about - but that Bond manages to track and get in the absolute center of in a matter of moments. Also, the 2nd chase scene (after the opening car chase) after the villain's escape from custody -- through the running of the bulls, was just too Moore-like, sensational, touristy Bond nonsense that almost killed the franchise. Though, admittedly, the fight and gun play on the construction ropes was very thrilling.

Casino Royale has a tight spy story to tell, filled with many actual intertwining characters, that doesn't deviate off into fictional super-villain BS. Also, the opening credits montage, with "You Know My Name" playing above it, with many fist fights and playing cards used as shurikens, with Bond masked out, until the last sequence, when you see his face, and then masked out again, is one of the best Bond credit rolls of the post 60s Connery tittilation era.

Your mileage may vary.
