I was just in Key West earlier this year...makes me sad something so terrible could happen in a place I so thoroughly enjoyed, but it can be a rough, scary place...especially at night. But it's doubly awful that she has been re-victimized by the reactions of others since. Indeed, it is an unkind world...made that way by the violent and cruel...but made worse by the insensitive and ignorant.

You are such a wonderful considerate person! The World needs more like you!

Yes, we must look at the person, not the appearance!

A great warning!

Pretty horrible stuff, I suppose it can happen anywhere. I love Key West, almost thought of relocating one day.

Scars for most can run deeper than the skin surface, but those who can live on and live fully despite such tragedy are embodiment of real strength.

I have seen a lot of ugliness and scars through my profession and I found healing mentally is always the toughest part, but I have faith in those people to move forward. Not easy though.

It saddened me to hear your friend died so young, but as well, the emotional scarring from the cruelity of people, along with the obvious physical scarring from those low forms of life, not human, but some icky rendition of one.

I used to enjoy night time walks, being a solitary person, I like the quietness and stillness, and of course, the beauty of the night time sky, however, I stopped that behaviour. I went out for a long walk, and it was dusk when i was returning home, three men in a car, keep whistleing to me, driving very slow, and saying sexual things, not using swear words, but as you can imagine bad things, so they followed me from a main street, down to my own street, so i went to neighbours house, that was lit, and they drove off.

I do not want to imagine if I was not close to my home when they started their harassment, but i am glad I thought on my feet and went to a lit home instead the dark quietness of mine.

A good post, sadly things can happen anywhere and to anyone, but it seems we have to cautious as well.
