No, it has not killed dating. Young folks, still get out to clubs and such, at least in larger cities and meet there or in places like the workplace or in colleges like they always have.

Because of stricter drunk driving laws, older folks are not going otu and drinking as much , so many of the local places older people might congregate are closing up or can;t afford the cost of live music which used to draw people to clubs that may be frequented by an older crowd.

If the internet dating sites are to be believed in their marketing (this one is not) then folks are connecting to a degree on line, which is not the conventional means of meeting and dating.

Participating in social, physical and political activities still are a place for people to meet, however, I suspect the numbers of folks activity partipatin in many groups is down.

As a male gay 25 years ago i met and dated via announcements, by visiting gay clubs and on the nude beach. Contact announcements were always 'blind' dates while in clubs and at nude beaches the contact was more direct and selective as it happened face to face while being naked.

I use internet now for 10 years. Least successful are dating sites and forums as these get many 'trolls' and fakers. More successful are the webcam chat sites where I can talk face to face. Ok also here there are many trolls just looking for some naked gratuity, I have no problem with that. In recent years most dates follow a chat sessions. When i meet now with a guy first time, it is mostly after such chat session where all sexual aspects are discussed. The physical meeting in a gay bar afterwards is much more "effective" as my date has seen me naked before on the webcam, knows my sexual interests and what to expect. It makes a huge difference for having sex with otherwise unknown strangers.

Being different from the majority of people as homosexual my pleasure is in being used by others...
