Survival?

I think intelligence has plenty of survival value.
One needs to see the problems before one can create solutions. Figuring out solutions that will work is part trial and error and part understanding and knowhow.

Intelligence would suggest that we might make decisions as a species which would enhance our chances at survival on the only biosphere that is capable of supporting us. And yet, with all of the trumpery south of the border and the post truth and unremitting alternative facts uttered by all of the governments worldwide, we are accelerating rather than decelerating our approach to the abyss. Considering that there are a lot of self proclaimed and
generally acclaimed "intelligent" people on this planet who have continued to support this insanity, I beg to differ with your expressed optimism. We have known for aeons that we should not shit in our drinking water, and that war only serves the interests of those who profit from it. And yet ... here we are.

That being said, I will acknowledge the need for optimism in the face of nihilism with another quote:

"I do not believe that intellectuals will inevitably 'save the world,' although I see nothing at all wrong with 'trying to save the world'- a phrase which I take here to mean the avoidance of war and the rearrangement of human affairs in accordance with the ideals of human freedom and reason. But even if we think the chances dim, still we must ask: If there are any ways out of the crises of our epoch by means of the intellect, is it not up to intellectuals to state them?"
-C.W. Mills
