Kinky Ham Shack Reboot

Hey, folks,

It's been a long time since this group was active--and even in its infancy it was in a rarefied atmosphere.

Life gets in the way sometimes. I wandered away from ham radio and the lifestyle for a few years, and then suddenly got sucked back into it last year.

My own shack is pretty basic, if highly portable. For my own reasons, I prefer portable over mobile. First, I really don't have the expertise, tools or working space to modify my vehicle. Second, I like the concept of high speed, low drag. Third, it's so simple, even a little ol' lady can set it up.

So, I don't know what direction the reboot will take. Given the sad state of Alt these days (but it seems to be improving a little), I can't see the group attracting tons of members. After all, we're HAMs and we're an esoteric bunch even on a good day.

Pop in, introduce yourselves, yada-yada-yada. The usual rules apply, i.e. no flaming, No Freakin' Politics, be civil, back up your opinions with solid proof.

In short, let's not be douches. I'm serious as a heart attack about this.

If you want to share your call sign with someone, it would be wise to do so in a PM or an email. Guard your call sign like you guard your Social Security number. It used to be that few people knew how to look up your location via the FCC database. 'Tain't the case these days.

I think that's it for this morning.
