~ Cast your own shadow ~
Alas! must it ever be so? Do we stand in our own light, wherever we go, and fight our own shadows forever?
Too long have I spent stumbling about in the sheltering shadows of others. It is time for me to step into the sunlight and cast a shadow of my own. I'm sure that, like a small child learning to walk on it's own, I will teeter often, I will occasionally fall, I will scrape my chin and bump my nose now and then, and I will bruise my dignity frequently. I know there will be times when I reach out for a stabilizing hand, I will prop myself up and pant, simply catching my breath, I will be tempted to curl up in the offered shade. I hope I am strong enough to stand firm, when to do otherwise would prove detrimental. I also hope I am wise enough to accept the offered shade when it is truly what I need most.
