The Seven Piece Fantasy Restraint Kit seems designed with both the bondage-curious and seasoned bondage aficionados in mind: It comes with four padded nylon cuffs, all the same size; two tethers that can be shortened to extremely constricting lengths, or let out up to 48 inches; and a leather and fur blindfold. While there are many fun aspects to this kit, there are also some design and sizing elements that are puzzling. Your bondage mileage may vary.

The padded leather blindfold is soft, very comfortable, and good at keeping the light out. The fur lining is placed on the straps of the blindfold instead of over the eyes, which is slightly odd. But the fur feels nice on the side of your face, and the blindfold itself manages to be soft, sensuous, and sensory-depriving all at once -- all good qualities in a blindfold. The bondage tethers are also quite nifty, with clips that allow you to attach them to the kit’s restraints, or other bondage equipment, in a snap. Because there is such a range of size in the tethers, they offer a wide range of positions for you to put your willing victim into, or to get into yourself.

But the restraints in this kit -- which are the most important part -- don’t prove quite as all-purpose as the blindfold and tethers. The four padded cuffs are ostensibly supposed to fit wrists and ankles -- but all four cuffs are the exact same size, and they run on the smaller side to begin with. Upon opening and playing with this kit, I was surprised to find that there is no difference in size, or even any aesthetic difference, between the wrist and the ankle cuffs. Usually, ankle and wrist cuffs are designed differently to accommodate for the fact people’s ankles are generally larger than their wrists -- but for some reason, that wasn’t the case here.

Now, I have fairly small hands, and my feet are a women’s size 6. I didn’t have any trouble fitting the cuffs around my wrists firmly but comfortably; and while the ankle cuffs technically fit, they didn’t feel the sturdiest or the sexiest. I’d venture to guess that someone with even larger wrists and especially someone with medium-to-large sized ankles would have trouble fitting into these cuffs without potentially cutting off circulation. (And while comfort is sometimes the last thing on your mind when you’re tied up, it really is no fun to have your feet fall asleep when you’re in the middle of a romp.)

So, in short: If you or your partner-to-be-tied are on the willowy side, with similarly proportioned wrists and ankles, you’ll probably get a lot of mileage out of this sturdy and comfortable bondage kit. But if you’ve got wrists or ankles that are average-to-plus-sized, you might need to look elsewhere to get your bondage needs fulfilled… Or just think of the kit as two sets of wrist restraints with a blindfold and extra tethers.
